Today is the day. You wake up and you can feel it – the energy and that fleeting sensation in your stomach. You’ve worked hard all winter with long sessions in the gym, on the track, doing hills, lifting weights, attempting to eat healthy and talking the ultimate talk. Since you decided to tryout for a team for the 2012 season, ultimate has become all consuming. So now that the first day of tryouts has finally come you need to start thinking about the one thing that you’ve probably left to this point to consider about, to decide upon; a crucial element in your preparation for sheer domination – what-to-wear-to-tryouts.
On March 24th, the best female ultimate players in the GTA (and beyond!) took to the fields at Lamport Stadium for the elite/competitive hat tournament. The elite division had over 50 top players competing on four teams in a round-robin format. Over 35 players took part in the competitive side of the tournament, with coaching coming from the elite side. Some fantastic ultimate was played over the course of three hours. Players also took home prizes for MVP and most spirited awards for each team. Special thanks go to the tournament organizers and the Toronto Ultimate Club for making the event possible.
After the tournament, a bake sale was held in support of Team Canada Women’s Ultimate. What can’t these women do? Thanks to everyone who made the fundraiser such a success. Check out some pictures of the event! 1. Always ensure that your shorts are long enough that they either just graze your knees or perhaps even longer. For visual reference please refer to Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes. No one likes the girl in the short shorts prancing around the field – I should know, I started off as that girl.
Watch this video to find out a bit more about the WFDF World Ultimate & Guts Championships being held in Sakai, Japan this July. Looking forward to seeing the UNO ladies on the field! Hello Ultimate fans and welcome to the first installment of Fashion Fridays. Now I know most of you are asking the question, a Fashion column on an Ultimate website? I am here to tell you that just because we are female athletes and we sweat, swear and occasionally grunt, doesn’t mean we can’t be fierce on the field as well as off. Let’s face it, Ultimate is a fashionable sport and the evolution of Ultimate style over the past few years has often been overlooked, until now.
We're very excited to announce that we'll be working with Michelle Ng of Without Limits to offer a skills clinic to women in Toronto. Find out more about the event and other event partners on the Toronto Ultimate Club website. We hope to see you out there!

Kate, Kristin and I connect Vancouver and Ottawa by skype once a week to recap how things are going and what tasks we need to work on, delegate, or check off the list as complete. There was plenty to talk about today: - jerseys - accommodations in Japan - Vancouver tryouts (recap) - Ottawa tryouts (planning) and - season plan (schedule). I saved this one for last as a big chunk of our time is really focussed on putting together a plan for this summer that will provide TC with the right amount of games, practice time, and competition. Should be easy right? Not quite. Team Canada tryouts kicked off yesterday during a fantastic and sunny day in Vancouver, B.C. The ladies demonstrated their throwing & cutting skills, how they can break out of zones like pros and their timing and flow skills all over the field. We kept things fresh and scrimmaged with every number of team sizes possible - 4v4, 5v5, 6v6, 7v7 - we did them all! Layouts? Yes, those happened too! Don't forget hammers, scoobers, foot and handblocks. The ladies brought their best and weren't afraid to sky each other when the moment arose. During our lunch break, in true Canadian spirit, we cheered for the ladies trying out for Canada's U20 team heading to Ireland this summer.
Congrats to all those that came out yesterday. You kept the intensity up for four solid hours and demonstrated why Canada will be a force to reckon with this summer! A huge thanks to those that came out at the end of the day for a solid scrimmage to finish things off! Next stop: Ottawa March 31/April 1 |
